New Principal Search

Mrs. Burns is retiring in June and 1-2 parents are needed to serve on the search committee (which also includes teachers & administrators) to find a new principal for Francis Wyman.  Committee meetings, interviews and site visits will be conducted beginning in late March through early April. If you are interested in being on this committee or would like further information, please contact Wendy Czerwinski at 781-272-8795 or wendycz@rcn.com by Tuesday, February 27th.

BoxTops for Education

BoxTops for Education are needed now: Please send in all of the General Mills box tops you've been saving (we do not collect Betty Crocker points or soup labels).  Our next submission is at the end of February, and we'd like to have them in by Monday the 26th to begin sorting and counting! Thanks in advance for participating, and keep saving them - we'll have another collection in June. Any questions, please contact Kristine Brown at kristineb_atc@hotmail.com.

Parent Education Night

Wednesday, March 7th, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Marshall Simonds Middle School auditorium: Gateway Drugs: Our Children on the Road to Trouble sponsored by the Burlington Drug & Alcohol Task Force and the Burlington PTO’s.  It’s never too soon to get information.  There will be door prizes!!! A lot of work has gone into this presentation.  It is one that you won’t want to miss!!!

Volunteer Opportunities

We need a few volunteers after February vacation.

  1. On Friday, March 2nd, we need two volunteers: Someone in the morning to bring coffee and munchkins in for the readers who are coming in for Dr. Seuss Day, and someone, at the end of the day, to help take away the empty boxes.

  2. A volunteer is needed to copy some binders for our district core books.  Please call Rosemary DeSousa directly at Central Office at 781-270-1989 and she will explain the nature of this important copying.

  3. We are looking for parent volunteers to purchase the snacks for MCAS testing.  Save your receipts and you will be reimbursed by the PTO.  We need:

March - 953 snacks 10 days of testing
May - 853 snacks 9 days of testing

Please contact Wendy Czerwinski at 781-272-8795 or at wendycz@rcn.com for more information or to volunteer.  Thank you!!!

Student Enrichment: Author Visits

Thanks to our successful fundraising, the PTO is able to help bring the following authors to Francis Wyman this year:

5th Annual Family Carnival Planning Meeting

Any parent that is interested in helping plan a section of the family carnival should contact Tanya Ikier at 781-272-1972 or wikier@comcast.net.  The next meeting scheduled is Tuesday, February 27th.  Come join a great group of parents who have fun planning our #1 annual social event at Francis Wyman.

Magazine Drive

Need to renew any magazine subscriptions??? February is when we kick off the annual magazine subscription drive.  The program provides 1-2 subscriptions to each classroom.  The number of subscriptions per class is determined by how many subscriptions are renewed or newly purchased.  Orders due by March 10th.

Volunteer “On-Call” List

We are still looking for parent volunteers who would like to help but don’t have the time available to sign up to be on or run a committee.  Fill out the “On-Call” form on the PTO website (www.burlington.mec.edu/fw, PTO Home Page, Downloadable Forms) to be put on a rotating list.  Names will be called in order for different needs.  If it fits your schedule, say “yes,” if it doesn’t fit your schedule, say “no” and your name goes to the bottom of the list to be called at another time.

5th Grade DARE Graduation (2/26/07)

Any more 4th grade parents want to find out what the DARE Graduation Party is all about (next year is your turn)? Volunteers are needed to help serve the fifth graders at the reception after the ceremony, contact Debbie Dew at Debra_Dew@yahoo.com or Sue Frost at susieqfrost@verizon.net.
